The second most populous city in Brazil and the sixth in Latin America, Rio de Janeiro is an important financial and commercial centre of the country and South America, constituting the second largest economy, the second largest reference and research centre in the country and the most sought after destination for Brazilians to visit.

Rio de Janeiro is located in the southeast of Brazil. The city boasts some of the world's most beautiful landscapes, stunning beaches, towering mountains, waterfalls and parks. With more than 90 km of beaches and 30% of green area, including the largest urban forest in the world, the city of Rio is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for its urban cultural landscape.

Rio de Janeiro is also known for its relaxed and joyful lifestyle, with a culture rich in music, dance, cuisine and festivities, which reflect its rich cultural diversity that brings together African, European and indigenous influences.

The city of Rio de Janeiro welcomes you all to the 22nd IOPD International Conference, which will take place in person from November 6 to 8, 2023 at the Cidade das Artes cultural complex.
