People Powered launches "How to Start a Climate Assembly" online course

This course follows December's on how cities can use participatory budgeting to address climate change.

The International Observatory on Participatory Democracy is a partner entity of the next People Powered University online course, "How to Start a Climate Assembly". Participants will learn key lessons from climate assemblies in the UK, Poland, and France. Leading practitioners and advocates will share best practices and help participants identify next steps to advocate for and start a climate assembly in their home city or country.

Citizens' climate assemblies or panels are one of the latest innovations in using public participation to address climate change. Local and national climate assemblies provide a space for community members to learn how climate change impacts their community or country, and then develop and propose concrete actions for the government to take. National governments have organized climate assemblies in France, the United Kingdom, and Scotland. At the local level, cities like Warsaw and Wrocław, Poland and Camden, England have held climate assemblies and panels.

The course will take place on 18 February, 16:00 - 17:30 Central European Time (15:00 - 16:30 GMT) via Zoom in English. Simultaneous interpretation in French, Spanish, and Portuguese is available upon request.  Please share your language preferences when you register.

To ensure that the course meets your needs, People Powered is asking you to submit questions in advance. They will use this input to design the course. Please submit your questions when you register. Only questions received by 25 January will be addressed.
