We invite all local and regional governments to submit proposals until 15 May 2024!
The International Observatory on Participatory Democracy (IOPD) and United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) invite local and regional governments to submit their innovative practices of local democracy and co-creation for the 18th edition of the IOPD Award "Best Practice in Citizen Participation." This award is delivered annually to recognise successful experiences and public policies on citizen participation, community engagement, democratic innovation, public deliberation, and open government.
Organisations and individuals are also encouraged to submit their applications, only with the authorisation of their local and regional government.
The deadline for proposal submissions is 15 May 2024!
*If you submit your practice before 30 April, the IOPD Technical Secretariat team will be able to support you in reviewing your application for improvement.
New for this 2024 edition is the submissions form on our website. All you have to do is fill in the online form, available in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. To help you prepare your application before filling in the online form, we invite you to carefully read the terms of the award and the application guide. We also encourage you to carefully read the form to get familiar with the questions and fields to be filled in.
Another new feature is the inclusion of five categories to classify and evaluate the practices. Therefore, you will need to choose the category in which you wish to submit your practice according to its most important objective: 1) Building more democratic and peaceful cities and territories, 2) Urban management and public space, 3) Gender and care, 4) Ecological transition and environment and 5) Civic Tech and AI.
The nominations will be evaluated by an expert jury and an open vote through the online platform Participate OIDP.
If you have any questions, please send an email to oidp@uclg.org
