The UCLG community meets again in person – combined with virtual participation – to present and discuss the work plan and the UCLG Congress that will take place in Daejeon, South Korea, in October 2022. The event held in Barcelona on October 21 to 25 was structured in the different axes of the Congress: Town Hall (participation of civil society), Assemblies (participation of regional sections and communities of practice), Global Taskforce and presidency. The IOPD secretariat team actively participated in the sessions and was able to present the work priorities for 2022.

The UCLG Annual Retreat is a week-long meeting that offers UCLG's main nodes and partners the opportunity to define synergies and carry out actions aligned with the work plans established by the Governing Bodies.

It gives participants the opportunity to boost the connections between the different parts of the UCLG ecosystem, with the involvement of both political leaders and technical staff, to converge as a network and to reflect on our priorities for the year.

2021 brought the concept of "care" to the UCLG Retreat and it became the organization's leitmotif throughout the year. The first virtual Retreat was a global experience and took advantage of the possibilities of virtual spaces to bring together all the nodes of this World Organization and offer an experience never seen before.

The 2022 Retreat was a kind of return to the origins with the use of new media and tools. At last it was possible to return to the face-to-face debate with the possibility, yes, of virtual interventions for all those who could not be present in Barcelona in this fantastic week.
