Our IOPD President, the City of Rio de Janeiro, is pleased to announce the launch of the Global Network of Anti-Racist Cities during the First Cities Summit of the Americas in Denver, on April 27th. This unprecedented cooperation group aims to innovate in public policies by promoting racial equality to benefit the black, indigenous, quilombola, Roma and traditional African population, refugees, immigrants and other socially vulnerable ethnic groups.
This initiative is the outcome of the Pact to Combat Racism and Promote Ethnic-Racial Equity, proposed by Rio de Janeiro City Hall's Executive Office and its Coordination for the Promotion of Racial Equality (CPIR), which was signed on June 20, 2022, and joined by 21 Brazilian cities. Now, the City of Rio de Janeiro is extending an invitation to the cities of all continents to join this important initiative. You can find the Pact in this link.
To participate, municipalities can express their interest by filling out the form using the links below. To register your city, you need to be the signatory point of a municipal administration. The forms:
The City of Rio de Janeiro will chair the Global Network of Anti-Racist Cities until February 2024, when the elections will be held. There is no cost or financial commitment to join the network. All signatories' cities are expected to attend an annual meeting to evaluate their racial equality policies and exchange best practices related to the theme.
Similarly, the City of Rio de Janeiro will host the 22nd IOPD Conference, to be held from November 6 to 8, 2023.
