Drakenstein Municipality (Afrikaans: Drakenstein Munisipaliteit; Xhosa: uMasipala wase Drakenstein) is a local municipality located within the Cape Winelands District Municipality, in the Western Cape province of South Africa. As of 2011, it had a population of 251,262. The municipality covers a total area of 1,538 square kilometres in the valley of the Berg River to the west of the Boland mountain ranges
In 2020, the municipality implemented a digital platform named SeeClickFix that citizens can use to report non-emergency issues on services, such as potholes, illegal dumping or long grass. It's destined to local governments, interested in creating more positive civic experiences in their communities while managing residents inquiries.
It's a digital platform very easy to use. Citizens just have to take a photo of the issue they want to report, and then upload it to the platform adding some details, such as the location and the category type of the service request. Finally, they just have to submit their report. The platform can be used on a mobile phone but also on a computer, so everyone can reach it. Citizens receive a notification when their request has been registered, acknowledged and then resolved by the municipality, and they may track existing issues that they have reported. It gives them the opportunity to be more involved in the urban management of the city.
On the administrative department side, it's a useful tool because it gives the exact location on a map of the issue. The main objective is to make sure that good customer service is provided to make the municipality more efficient, and to assist citizens much more effectively. For local governments, it powers efficient and transparent workflows, fostering accountability and trust. The result is collaborative experiences between governments and residents that co-create clean, safe, and happy communities.
